Be free from feeling being intimidated, offended, disrespected, belittled, insulted, unloved, and etc

If the mind feels being intimidated, offended, disrespected, belittled, insulted, unloved, and etc, by what it experiences/perceives, it’s coming from the mind itself reacting in such way towards the perceived names and forms that the mind recognized/categorized as intimidation, offensiveness, disrespectfulness, belittling, insulting, unloving, and so on. It’s not coming from the names and forms that the mind perceives/experiences through the senses.

This conditioned reaction is due to the egoistic impure mind is functioning under the influence of pride and arrogance and expectation. The ego doesn’t like or doesn’t want to come in contact with the unpleasant/undesirable/’hurtful’ experiences of what the mind recognizes/categorizes as intimidation, offensiveness, disrespectfulness, belittling, insulting, unloving, and so on.

The ego thinks and believes and expects that it deserves certain kinds of treatment/interaction and doesn’t deserves certain kinds of treatment/interaction.

“I don’t like this. I don’t agree with this. I don’t want this.” and “I think/believe/expect/want all beings/humans/people should think/believe/react/behave like this and shouldn’t think/believe/react/behave like that.”

It’s the prideful/self-assured/self-glorified ego that feels being intimidated/encouraged, offended/pleased, disrespected/respected, belittled/flattered, insulted/praised, unloved/loved, and etc. When the ego is annihilated, all these qualities of names and forms vanished.

The mind doesn’t need to feel/react in such way and just allows all the perceived experiences/names and forms to be there as they are. There’s no intimidation, offensiveness, disrespectfulness, belittling, insult, unloving, and etc, if the mind is free from egoistic pride, arrogance and expectation. Other beings/humans/people are just behaving in the way that they want to behave, and their behavior is their own responsibility and freedom of actions.

Why allowing other people’s thinking/belief/reactions/behavior to determine one’s state of the mind or reactions? Especially if one thinks and strongly believes that oneself is all good and righteous and didn’t do anything bad or wrong, but one is suffering/unhappy/disturbed by other people’s thinking/belief/behavior that one thinks/believes/perceives/recognizes as bad/wrong/negative/hurtful.

If the mind still couldn’t understand this and feels annoyed/offended by this teaching, then this mind doesn’t need to practice this teaching. It’s the freedom of this mind of how it wants/doesn’t want to think/believe/react/behave.

The minds that are not free from ignorance and egoism, that are not free from pride/arrogance/superiority/self-assurance/self-glorification/expectation will always easily be disturbed/offended/intimidated/belittled/hurt/insulted by anything, at anywhere and anytime.

Those who have realized the magnificent of oneness/non-separateness beyond all the different qualities of names and forms, will not spend even a tiny drop of attention/interest/effort/energy onto all these worldly names and forms of thinking/belief/behavior/reaction generated/sprung from ignorance and egoism. There’s no difference between intimidation and encouragement, offensive and pleasing, disrespectfulness and respectfulness, belittling and flattering, insult and praise, unloving and loving, and so on. There’s neither craving nor aversion towards all these qualities of names and forms.

If the mind tries to ignore or deny the names and forms that the mind perceives as bad/wrong/negative/unpleasant/meaningless, but it doesn’t stop chasing after or clinging onto the names and forms that the mind perceives as good/right/positive/pleasant/meaningful, then this mind is not free yet. Though that is the freedom of this mind to be what it is.

One doesn’t need to stand there to allow/receive treatments/behavior/interactions that are abusive coming from ignorant impure minds. One can move away or stay away from ignorant minds and ignorant behavior, to conserve energy, to not waste energy into dealing/affliction/conflict with ignorant minds and ignorant behavior. Just like standing under hot sun for more than certain time will burn the skin badly, one moves away from the hot sun and takes shelter under the shade. It’s ignorance to think, “I am practicing non-attachment and non-reaction, I should stand here under the hot sun even if it will burn my skin.”

Be free.

 

About insult or disrespectfulness…

There is a public dispute about some people took some nude photos on the top of a ‘sacred’ mountain and being blamed for the earthquake that has taken some lives and caused some damages.

Every living being is being born into this world naked.

When someone feels insulted or disrespected by something, it is the mind that projects the quality of ‘insult’ or ‘disrespectfulness’ onto certain names and forms that is responsible for the mind to feel being insulted or disrespected upon coming in contact with what the mind projects and believes as ‘insulting’ and ‘disrespectful’.

There are people who believe nakedness is something highly sacred. And there are people believe it is something truly insulting and disrespectful towards sacredness.

Whether the mind believes nakedness is something sacred or something insulting and disrespectful towards sacredness, it’s just something that the mind wants to believe what it is. Nakedness itself is neither sacred nor insulting towards sacredness.

If the mind is dirty, then nakedness meant something dirty for this being. But it is not what nakedness truly is.

If the mind is sacred, then nakedness meant something sacred for this being. But it is not what nakedness truly is.

Nakedness is just what it is.

Nakedness has no quality to be something ‘insulting’ or ‘disrespectful’, but coming from the mind thinks and believes that “being naked” is something ‘insulting’ and ‘disrespecting’, and it intentionally wants to be insulting or disrespectful by being naked to insult or disrespect others.

Something truly sacred or pure cannot be contaminated by any impurities.

If something claimed to be sacred can be offended and threatened by something that is ‘impure’, ‘insulting’ and disrespectful’, no one should go near to that thing that claimed to be sacred.

If the ‘God’ is ‘someone’ easily be offended and be threatened by impure and ignorant human being’s ignorant behavior, and will get very angry and will hurt those ignorant beings out of anger and hatred, what type of ‘God’ is this?

If a mind is not pure, full of evil and corrupted thinking and ill-will, this mind is being ‘disrespectful’ and ‘insulting’ within itself, towards itself, even if it puts on sufficient, respectful or decent clothing on the physical appearance.

Living in the world with so many different human beings with different thinking and beliefs, we should try to respect other people’s conditioned thinking and beliefs for what they think is respectfulness, appropriateness and sacredness.

That’s why some wise people try to stay away as much as possible from some other human beings to avoid unintentionally ‘insult’ or ‘disrespect’ certain people, and generate unnecessary tension.

Those who are pure will not have any interest to insult or disrespect anyone, nor be determined by other people’s intentional or unintentional insult or disrespectfulness.

Forbearance?

In the teachings of yoga, forbearance is the highest Sadhana. Without forbearance, we will be over-powered by impurities that arise due to the craving and aversion coming from the ego towards what it likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements, and generate reactions that might bring harmful effects onto ourselves and other beings.

The weaker is the ego, the easier is the practice of forbearance, and vice versa. When the ego is very strong, forbearance seems like impossible, as pride and arrogance is predominant in the mind, and the mind will be over-powered by anger, hatred, jealousy, dissatisfaction, fear and worry, and will generate reaction that will cause disharmony in oneself and others.

Those who have very little forbearance, will perceive everything negatively, like to find faults in everything and blames on others for their unhappiness, and complain a lots about this and that which they don’t like and disagree with.

In the beginning, when we practice the teachings of yoga about forbearance, we try to forbear any discomfortable or difficult conditions and situations in life without generate aversion. We try to forbear insults without generate reaction of anger, hatred, ill-will, retaliation, or vengeance. We try to walk away from other people’s behaviors that are violent or unkind. If we couldn’t walk away and are caught up in such situations, we endure and be patient. As this will also pass away.

At this stage, our mind still categorizes certain actions and speech are insulting, certain conditions and situations are discomfortable and difficult, and the ego will feel insulted or unhappy when it comes in contact with all these undesirable experiences. As well as we are still identifying with the egoistic thinking mind as ‘I’. And thus, we (the egoistic mind) need to have certain degrees of forbearance, forgiveness, patience, tolerance, adaptation, adjustment, accommodation for us to withstand all these life experiences that the mind recognizes and categorizes as ‘insult’, ‘discomforts’, ‘difficulty’ or ‘suffering’, have self-control over our thoughts, speech and action, without generate reaction that will cause further unnecessary harmful effects onto ourselves and other beings.

When we know about the truth of things, which everything is just what it is. They are not something good or bad, positive or negative, happiness or suffering, easy or difficult, praise or condemn, compliment or insult, as well as the ego is weakened or eliminated, then there is nobody, or ‘I’ being there to experience ‘insult’, ‘discomforts’, ‘difficulty’ or ‘suffering’. There is no need to forbear anything, as there is no ‘insult’, ‘discomforts’, ‘difficulty’ or ‘suffering’ that ‘I’ need to forbear.

That is real freedom or liberation. Liberation is not in the future, which we believe it will happen after we perform lots of virtues and merits. Liberation is not about getting everything that we like and want, and not getting anything that we don’t like and don’t want. Liberation is being aware of the present moment now while accepting the reality as it is, without craving and aversion towards the qualities of names and forms that the mind likes and dislikes, agrees and disagrees with. And thus stop generating reaction that will bring cause and effect that binds us to the birth and death.

Liberation is in this very moment, when there is no attachments, no craving or aversion in the mind, when we know about the truth of names and forms, and have transcended the identification with the ego, the body and the mind.

Forbearance is indeed advance yoga practice. To forbear physical, mental and emotional discomforts in the beginning of our yoga practice until we realize the truth, and there is no need of the practice of forbearance at all. Being able to perform many hours of yoga asana practice that require certain degrees of skills, strength, flexibility and stamina, is not really advance practice if we don’t know the practice of forbearance, easily being disturbed and determined by what we see, hear, smell, taste, touch and think that we don’t like and don’t agree with. We are irritated, frustrated and unhappy when we come in contact with what we don’t like and disagree with, or when we are not getting what we like and want.

Forbearance is not separated from the practice of Mauna, or silence. To not react towards any insults and discomfortable or unpleasant experiences, and restrict the egoistic mind to express itself through thoughts, action and speech, to refrain it from generating harmful thinking, action and speech out of anger, hatred, jealousy, dissatisfaction, fear or worry.

Forbear injuries (physically, emotionally, mentally), forebear insults, forbear humiliation, forbear undesirable circumstances, conditions and situations, is highest Sadhana.

Under any circumstances, do not generate anger, hatred, violence, retaliation, or vengeance.

The power that supports forbearance is forgiveness and the power that heals all injuries and hurts is unconditional love.

Love all beings as they are. See the ignorance behind all the actions and reactions that are hurting ourselves and other beings.

Be kind and compassionate towards ourselves and other beings.

Stop hurting ourselves and other beings by dissolving all under current of anger, hatred, violence, retaliation, or vengeance in us with forbearance, forgiveness and unconditional love.
